EARTHISM

Recently, there came a great change in the political landscape of our neighbour to the South. The Republican Party lost its hold on Congress to a very radical Democratic Party.

How did this happen? The media seems to think that it has something to do with the voters disapproval of the War on Terror, or perhaps the recent scandals among Republican officials swayed voters. However, none are mentioning the sharp drop of support from those voters who identify themselves as Evangelical Christians. And while they have noted the fall of Ted Haggard, few are linking him to the election.

And yet, even before his sordid personal life came to light (effectively ending his ministry), he had delivered the Evangelical vote into the hands of their enemy, the Left wing of American politics.

In this devastating and insightful book, Dr. Charles McVety exposes the cause for which Haggard betrayed his political allies and how it is linked to the great falling away predicted in scripture.

Barak Obama and
liberation theology

By John Clarke

June 5th, 2008

Any politician running for office can expect to be attacked by his ideological opponents, and Barak Obama is no exception. In the early days of his campaign for the Democratic nomination for president, he was criticized for not putting his hand on his heart during the American National Anthem, for his liberal voting record and for the possibility that he was Muslim.

He was able to counter the last one by pointing out his involvement with his Christian church, and his close relationship with the Pastor of his church, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. It was when excerpts from Wright's sermons came to light that Obama faced a major crisis in his campaign.

Whither the Palestinians

By Dr. John Howarth

During each of the guest appearances I have made on Dr. Charles McVety’s weekly television program, Word.ca, I have purposefully referred to the Arab inhabitants of Biblical Israel as “the so-called ‘Palestinians’”.  I reluctantly use this designation, only because the media and the politicians do. But I qualify my use of the term, because of the historical truth that lies behind, and informs, it.

The use of this designation for, and by the Arabs who inhabit the so-called “Gaza Strip” and the so-called “West Bank”, is nothing but a decades-old historical and sociological deception. The Arabs have successfully adopted the term as a ploy to convince the world that they are the ancient owners of “Palestine”, having had an ancient presence in the Land, and, therefore, an ancient right of ownership to it. Nothing could be further from the historical truth.

40319: Handbook of Today"s Religions

Handbook of Today's Religions
By Josh McDowell & Don Stewart

One of the best reference books available on the religions and cults present in our time, Handbook of Today's Religions combines, for the first time, four books by Josh McDowell and Don Stewart on religions, cults, and the occult into one easy-to-use volume. The four books, which each became a section of the compilation, are: Non-Christian Religions; The Occult; Secular Religions; The Cults. Powerful individually, together the books are a powerhouse of vital information for Christians on those worldviews which challenge and attack Christianity.

In part one, McDowell and Stewart focus on cults. The define what a cult is and offer some characteristics of cults affecting our society today, including: Hare Krishna, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, Transcendental Meditation, Theosophy and others.

Part two looks at the occult, offering information on its popularity and growth. Occultic practices ranging from astrology to hypnotism to witchcraft are explained and contrasted with biblical beliefs.

The third part offers a great look at the ten most familiar and prevalent non-Christian religions in the world. In this section you will find brief, but informative, looks at Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Shintoism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Islam, and Sikhism.

Part four looks at what McDowell and Stewart term secular religions. The worldviews looked at are: atheism; agnosticism, skepticism, Marxism, secular humanism, and existentialism.

All told, this reference book offers one of the best looks (from a Christian perspective) at each of the various religions and worldviews which exist currently. Understanding what motivates adherents of each system can help us to reach out to them with the truth of Christianity.
