Bronx churches celebrate court ruling that allows religious groups to meet in vacant public school space

Some local church worshippers were making a “joyful noise” on Sunday following a court ruling that allowed them to continue meeting in public schools on weekends.

“We were very grateful for the decision. When we got the news, some of our people were very excited,” said the Rev. Robert Hall of the Bronx Household of Faith, which meets at Public School 15 in University Heights.

The church has been locked in the legal battle with the city Department of Education since 1995 over whether religious groups can hold services in public schools outside of school hours.
