TRAINING CHRISTIAN AMBASSADORS FOR ISRAEL

Christians United For Israel-Canada has recently inaugurated a brand new initiative to raise up and train “Ambassadors For Israel”. In partnership with Canada Christian College in Toronto , Ontario , CUFI-Canada is providing and testing an innovative educational experience for the College's students.

During this current Winter Semester, an elective course is being taught that will inform and prepare the students to be active advocates for the Jewish people, and the State of Israel. The course is entitled, “The Biblical Theology of Christian Zionism”.

This brand new curriculum is based on the study of the Old Testament Covenants that God made with His people, starting with Adam, through to King David, with a concentration on God's Covenant with Abraham. These Covenants give evidence of God's unique relationship with His chosen people, the Jews, who are “the apple of His eye”. Special attention is given to the promises that God made with the Hebrew people, as part of His everlasting Covenant, including the Land of Canaan , and the eternal city of Jerusalem . This biblical teaching will be used to contrast the teachings of Islamic covenants, as well as the erroneous teaching in some Christian circles of “successionism”, or “Replacement Theology”. This so-called theology holds that, because the Jews did not accept Jesus as their Messiah, God has replaced them with the Christians and the Church as His chosen people, having nothing further to do with the Jews. To be consistent in their views, “replacement theologians” hold that the Covenants that God made with the Hebrew people through Abraham, Moses, and David, have now been superseded by the New Covenant and its people, the Church.

These charges are confronted head-on in this new course, as the New Covenant is expounded as the continuation of God's Covenants with the Jews. God has not rejected them, nor has He finished with them. This plain sense of Scripture is being carefully unwrapped for the students, as they discover the ongoing and everlasting plan that God has for His people—both Jew and Gentile.

The New Testament theology of Israel is shown to confirm God's role for the Jewish people, right up to the miracle of the rebirth of the modern State of Israel. This New Testament theology is necessarily informed by the Old Testament prophecies being fulfilled—many in our own generation: the return of the Jews from the Diaspora to the Land of Israel; the blooming of the desert for the provision of the Jews; the assignment of Jerusalem as the eternal city and capital of Israel; and the Land, as proof of God's eternal faithfulness to His people and His Covenants.

The biblical basis of Christian Zionism is being posited from the teachings of Jesus in the four Gospels, as well as from the letters of Paul to his various recipients, which most-often included both Jews and Gentiles. Special attention and study will be given to chapters 9, 10, and 11, in Paul's letter to the Christians in Rome . Has God rejected the Jews? No. Has God finished with the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? No. In fact, Paul exhorts the Gentile Christians in Romans 15:27 , that, because “ the Gentiles have shared in the Jews' spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings.”

Our students are being taught that we Christians must share not only our material blessings, but our spiritual and political support as well. Special attention will be given to the Scriptural teachings of social and political activism that all Christians must be engaged in, including our support of the Jewish people, and the State of Israel. It is a matter of truth and justice that Israel has the right to exist in peace as a Jewish State; that she has the right to the Land of Israel , as given to Abraham and his descendants in Genesis 17; and that she has the right to defend herself when attacked by her enemies.

This new curriculum is also very practical, as it trains the students, in various ways, to actively advocate for Israel as Christian ambassadors, and to oppose anti-Semitism in all of its forms. And the practical nature is enhanced by the additional requirement of traveling to Israel , as a class, to study in the Land for 10-14 days. Canada Christian College is so committed to this new curriculum, that it will give each student 6 credits for studying in Israel , as well as eventually making this a required course for every student's graduation.
