EARTHISM

Recently, there came a great change in the political landscape of our neighbour to the South. The Republican Party lost its hold on Congress to a very radical Democratic Party.

How did this happen? The media seems to think that it has something to do with the voters disapproval of the War on Terror, or perhaps the recent scandals among Republican officials swayed voters. However, none are mentioning the sharp drop of support from those voters who identify themselves as Evangelical Christians. And while they have noted the fall of Ted Haggard, few are linking him to the election.

And yet, even before his sordid personal life came to light (effectively ending his ministry), he had delivered the Evangelical vote into the hands of their enemy, the Left wing of American politics.

In this devastating and insightful book, Dr. Charles McVety exposes the cause for which Haggard betrayed his political allies and how it is linked to the great falling away predicted in scripture.

WHITHER THE “PALESTINIANS”?

Dr. John B. Howarth

During each of the guest appearances I have made on Dr. Charles McVety’s weekly television program, Word.ca, I have purposefully referred to the Arab inhabitants of Biblical Israel as “the so-called ‘Palestinians’”.  I reluctantly use this designation, only because the media and the politicians do. But I qualify my use of the term, because of the historical truth that lies behind, and informs, it.

The use of this designation for, and by the Arabs who inhabit the so-called “Gaza Strip” and the so-called “West Bank”, is nothing but a decades-old historical and sociological deception. The Arabs have successfully adopted the term as a ploy to convince the world that they are the ancient owners of “Palestine”, having had an ancient presence in the Land, and, therefore, an ancient right of ownership to it. Nothing could be further from the historical truth.

Using the term, “Palestinians” to refer to the Arab inhabitants of Biblical Israel, is as much of a misnomer as using the term “Indians” to refer to the natives of North America. The dozens of native tribes in Canada, the United Sates, and Mexico, are not Indians. They were misconstrued, and misnamed, by the earliest European explorers of “the New World” who incorrectly deduced that they had discovered the route to the spices and riches of India. To call these North American natives “Indians,” does not make them Indians, that is, inhabitants of India.

To call the Arab inhabitants of Biblical Israel “Palestinians,” does not make them Palestinians.  Let’s consider the historical origin and meaning of this designation:

"There is no such thing as a Palestinian Arab nation . . . Palestine is a name the Romans gave to Eretz Yisrael with the express purpose of infuriating the Jews . . . . Why should we use the spiteful name meant to humiliate us?
"The British chose to call the land they mandated Palestine, and the Arabs picked it up as their nation's supposed ancient name, though they couldn't even pronounce it correctly and turned it into Falastin, a fictional entity."
---- Prime Minister Golda Meir, quoted by Sarah Honig, Jerusalem Post, 25 November 1995

“Palestine has never existed . . . as an autonomous entity. There is no language known as Palestinian. There is no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc.
Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one-tenth of one percent of the landmass. But that's too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today . . . No matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough.”
--- from "Myths of the Middle East", Joseph Farah, Arab-American editor and journalist, WorldNetDaily, 11 October 2000

“From the end of the Jewish state in antiquity to the beginning of British rule, the area now designated by the name Palestine was not a country and had no frontiers, only administrative boundaries . . . .”

--- Professor Bernard Lewis, Commentary Magazine, January 1975

As Joan Peters proves in her pivotal book, From Time Immemorial, the word “Palestine,” comes from the Hebrew word peleshet (used, for example, in Exodus 13:17), and came to be used in the English language as “Philistine”. This Hebrew word and its cognates are used 9 times in the Hebrew Bible for “Philistia, Philistine”, and 287 times for “Philistine.” As we know from our Sunday School Bible Stories, the Philistines became the main enemy of the Israelites after God had miraculously redeemed them from Egypt, and led them to “The Promised Land.”

The Philistines were not Arabs like the present-day Jordanians, Lebanese, or Syrians. They were the “Sea Peoples” from the islands of the Aegean Sea, who had invaded the land of Canaan in the Thirteenth Century BCE. In Canaan, they built 5 major city-states, including Gaza, on a strip of land that bordered the Mediterranean Sea. The Greeks of Alexander the Great’s day, and the Romans of that vast Empire, referred to this strip of land as “Palestina,” again, derived from the Hebrew word, peleshet (Philistia).

Therefore, it is a misnomer for the Arabs of Biblical Israel to be called “Palestinians.” Using that name for themselves does not make them Palestinians, nor does it prove that they have the most ancient right of ownership to the land that we call Israel today.

Israel is “The Promised Land” of the Jews, because in Genesis 17:8, God said to Abraham, the father of the Jews, “The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”

In our next issue, this misnomer and misconception of the “Palestinians” will be exposed from the historical view of the last century.
